There are few events that encourage a more unique style than the Kentucky Derby. The famous horse race has developed somewhat of a cult following of fans, who don everything from bowties to big hats to ring in the special occasion.

Both will be in high demand in our area for the sixth-annual Kentucky Derby Party at West Laurel Hill Cemetery, one mile from your The Isle apartment.

The event has been growing in popularity and scope each year, and 2018 is promising to be its biggest and best yet! Of course, the party features a live viewing of the races on the big screen, but the festivities leading up to and following the shotgun start are just as exciting!

Guests can enjoy unlimited food and drinks, which embrace the derby theme. Mint juleps will flow freely, and partiers can partake in Southern-style cuisine. There will be a number of raffles and contests, including a fashion contest where the best dressed will take home some fabulous prizes—remember, with derby fashion, the bigger, the better! There will be live entertainment, a cigar bar, photo booth and the opportunity to hop aboard horse-drawn carriages to tour the historic cemetery. Guests will also be encouraged to pick their winning horse, with prizes for correct bets!

If you want to really go all out, opt for the VIP package, which includes a private screening area for the race, live illustrations and enhanced food and beverage options.

It’s not all just fun and games—proceeds from the party benefit Gateway Horseworks, which provides equine therapy for children and adults, as well as Penn Wissahickon Hospice, which provides end-of-life care for local patients.
