The dog days of summer are here! Summer 2020 is shaping up to be a bit different than most, with vacation spots closed and restrictions on many of our favorite summer hangouts. If you find yourself hanging around your The Isle apartment looking for a way to beat the heat while still getting out and about for some much-needed change of scenery, take it back to childhood with a trip out for ice cream.

One of Manayunk’s most popular ice cream spots is the Tubby Robot Ice Cream Factory, two blocks from your The Isle apartment. The shop has become renowned for its retro design, complete with arcade games to play while you indulge on your favorite sweet treats. Because of COVID restrictions, the games aren’t currently up and running, but be sure to schedule a return visit once operations are fully back to normal to check out the full atmosphere!

In the meantime, you can find plenty to love just on the menu. Tubby Robot prides itself on the freshness of its selections—making all ice cream by hand in store every day, using only local ingredients. So even if you’re cheating on the diet with your trip to the shop, at least you know you’re giving back to the local community by doing so!

Tubby Robot changes its ice cream menu daily, but always features 16 different options, with the standard faves like vanilla and mint chocolate chip, as well as more adventurous finds like lavender honey or dairy-free chocolate coconut. If you’re having trouble picking just one, opt for a flight and you can try four or eight mini scoops! Or, revisit your youth with one of the shop’s classic sundaes—the banana split, hot fudge sundae or warm brownie sundae.

It’s tempting to hide out in the air conditioning of your The Isle apartment, but with all the tasty temptations that Manayunk offers, chilling out can also mean getting out and enjoying the exciting offerings of our neighborhood.
