Shop Local on Small Business Saturday

The holiday shopping season has arrived! That often means long lines, battles for parking spots and hours going store to store in a crowded mall looking for the perfect gift. Holiday shopping is a necessity, but you can check everyone off of your list without ever stepping foot in a mall.

Stay home on Black Friday this year and instead get your shopping done on Small Business Saturday. Within blocks of your The Isle apartment are dozens of shops, most of which are individually owned and some of which have been catering to Manayunk shoppers for decades. On Small Business Saturday, shoppers are encouraged to invest their holiday dollars into their locally owned and operated shops, using their money to help grow the neighborhood business scene.

That scene is booming here in Manayunk, and many of the shops will roll out the red carpet on Small Business Saturday. On Nov. 24, more than 50 local stores will offer deep discounts to entice shoppers to stay local with their holiday shopping. At the annual event, snag free gifts at some shops, 20-percent off at others and giveaways at others. Shoppers can pound the pavement and get to know all the eclectic shops in Manayunk, which are known for their diversity; whether you’re looking for high-end fashions, vintage books, handcrafted jewelry or even pet supplies for the four-legged companion on your shopping list, Main Street and the surrounding area will have you covered.

And there’s plenty else to see and do once you get your shopping done. Manayunk will mark its annual Christmas tree lighting at 5:30 that evening at Canal View Park, one mile from your the Isle apartment. Following that festivity, stick around for live entertainment and drink and food specials at local restaurants.

On Small Business Saturday, get your shopping done while supporting local businesses, and then stay around to celebrate!
