3 Races to Help You Get Active This Fall

There’s perhaps no better time than the fall to take advantage of the natural beauty surrounding your Isle apartment for some outdoor exercise. Whether you’re trying to manage your weight, increase your energy level or practice a new hobby, the local landscape affords ample opportunities for walkers and runners. While you can certainly get lots of exercise at your own pace, taking part in a race is a great way to challenge yourself and strive for a goal. Such events are open to competitors of all abilities, so you can walk, jog, run or a combination—and you might get some cool medals at the end!

Here are a few of the best races coming to the area around your The Isle apartment this fall:

Friends on the Run: This event is truly a local effort. The third-annual 5K is organized by Friends in Pink, which raises money throughout the year to support Manayunk and Roxborough residents who are battling cancer. The Oct. 7 race will support that cause, as well as offer opportunities to mix and mingle with neighbors, find out ways to give back to the organization and learn about other cancer resources—as well as get some exercise with a view! Runners (and walkers!) will hit the path at the Manayunk Towpath, starting at Green Lane, three blocks from your The Isle apartment.

Belmont Hill Elementary School 5K: If you want to support local youth, this race is for you. Runners will set off from Belmont Hills Elementary School, one mile from your The Isle apartment, at 9 a.m. Nov. 4 (if you have little ones in your life, bring them along for a kids’ fun run starting at 8:45 a.m.). All runners receive a T-shirt, and proceeds from the event support school programs.

The Lemon Run: More than 3,000 people participate in this annual event, stepping off at 8 a.m. Nov. 11 from Memorial Hall, about four miles from your The Isle apartment. The event raises funds for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, which combats childhood cancer.
