Manayunk Takes on Shakespeare

You have several chances to catch the works of William Shakespeare near your The Isle apartment this month. While you may remember The Bard’s classic poems and plays, Manayunk Theatre Company will guarantee you’ve never seen Shakespeare like this before!

First up, catch Shakespeare Roulette Sept. 13-15 and 20-22 at Bourbon Blue, one block from your The Isle apartment.  The talented actors who comprise Manayunk Theatre Company will attempt to stage four separate Shakespeare classics—all in one night! It won’t be a marathon show, though: They’ll accomplish this task with some help from the audience. Here’s how they’ll do it: The production invites audience participation, with viewers spinning a Roulette wheel that describes different scenes from Shakespeare works. Whatever scene the wheel stops on is what the team will perform next, so each night’s show will be completely unique! Tickets are $10.

If you miss this series (or want an extra dose of Shakespeare!), don’t miss Manayunk Theatre Company’s final ShakesBEER event. The productions have been running monthly throughout the summer, with the last one slated for 7 p.m. Sept. 29 at Pretzel Park, just one block from your The Isle apartment, where the actors will take on “Macbeth.” However, this isn’t your run-of-the-mill high school production of the classic. Along the lines of hit TV show “Drunk History,” the actors will be imbibing as they act out the show—and each time they flub a line, they’ll have to take a sip. The audience is invited to pack their favorite bottle, a picnic and a blanket and enjoy the frivolity right alongside the cast. The best part? The show is completely free!

Even if you’re not a big Shakespeare fan, the unique twists that Manayunk Theatre Company is putting on the productions will have everyone saying huzzah!
