5 Must-Stops on Ridge Avenue

The Isle is located right near Main Street in Manayunk—meaning residents are within a stone’s throw of shopping, dining, nightlife, entertainment and more. But Main Street isn’t the only corridor in the area that packs a big punch. A few blocks away, Roxborough neighbors another of the area’s biggest and busiest streets: Ridge Avenue.

If you want a change of scenery, head the six blocks from your Isle apartment to Ridge for a different taste of the neighborhood.

Here are a few reasons to take a stroll down Ridge Avenue:

Kendrick Park: With a playground, pool and recreation center, Kendrick Park is a great place to go to toss around a ball with friends, do a few laps in the summer sun or get involved in the local community. The rec center often hosts community events, classes, workshops and more.

Bob’s Diner: The no-frills diner has been feeding locals since the 1940s—so you know they’re doing something right! The diner serves classic American comfort food, with the added bonus of being a BYOB.

Leverington Cemetery: History buffs will love strolling through the rows of headstones, some of which date back centuries and tell the storied history of Roxborough/Manayunk’s earliest residents.

Barr’s Bikes and Boards: If you cruise the area on a bike or skateboard—or are in the market for either—Barr’s is a must-stop. The shop features a wide range of new products, as well as parts and accessories, and also offers repair services.

Dalessandro’s Steaks: It’s about two blocks off Ridge, but any trip to the avenue has to include a visit to Dalessandro’s. Philly residents have battled for decades over which shop makes the best cheesesteak, and Dalessandro’s is always a contender. Make sure you bring your appetite!
